The ninth China International Import Expo, which runs in Shanghai through Tuesday, is serving as a showcase for cutting-edge technologies from around the world, with the Chinese market being a testing ground for global innovation.

This year's CIIE boasts even stronger innovation standouts. The Ministry of Commerce said that for the first time, over 300 Fortune Global 500 companies and industry-leading firms are participating.

In the medical equipment and healthcare products exhibition area, Siemens Healthineers is showcasing nearly 20 innovative products, solutions and achievements in ecosystem collaboration.

In the field of oncology, precision and efficiency are taking center stage with the global debut of the German firm's Halcyon Evolve intelligent ring-gantry radiotherapy platform. It delivers five times the fine beam-shaping capability and cuts quality assurance time in half, bringing precision radiation therapy within reach of more cancer patients.

Established in 2017 as a joint venture between United States-based Intuitive Surgical and Shanghai-based Fosun Pharma, Intuitive Fosun has been dedicated to advancing the application of minimally invasive treatment technologies in China.

A highlight at Intuitive Fosun's booth is the first exhibition in China of the da Vinci 5 robotic surgical system, Intuitive's next-generation robot-assisted surgical modality for thoracoscopic and laparoscopic procedures that features over 150 design innovations.

With powerful computing capabilities, upgraded force feedback technology and high-quality 3D visual optics, it provides a surgical system that looks toward the future of intelligent development in minimally invasive surgery.

"China is an important strategic market for Intuitive, not only because there is an opportunity to impact minimally invasive care here, but also because of the ecosystem of innovation and manufacturing, and supply chain capability, that we can also learn from and use to advance robotics," said David Rosa, CEO and member of the board of directors at Intuitive Surgical.

The US-based biotech firm Illumina became the first exhibitor to ever bring a mobile research lab that is fully operational to the CIIE, with its innovative mobile bioinformatics analysis platform making its debut. Such a platform is a system that processes, compares and analyzes massive raw sequencing data such as genome, RNA and protein. The platform is housed in a vehicle and features a patented ultra-high-speed omics analysis core platform, Dragen, providing support from data processing to analytical interpretation for research and clinical research usage. The company said this will help speed up the journey from sequencing data to scientific insights.

Representatives from one of the first users, Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center in Guangdong province, shared their experience using this platform in clinical research at the event.

In the intelligent industry and information technology exhibition area, Japan's Sony held a global debut of its driver takeover warning system, which relies on a visual language model to analyze road scenarios. When the autonomous driving system is nearing its operational limits, it alerts the driver to take control of the vehicle based on the level of risk. The system uses chain logic reasoning to compare the current road environment with the predefined safe operating range of the autonomous driving system in use.

Sony said this solution is designed for auto manufacturers and autonomous driving solution providers.
