Multinational companies are using the ongoing China International Import Expo to debut new technologies and products, highlighting their confidence in China's market potential and the scope for local applications.
This year's CIIE has attracted more than 2,000 companies making their first appearance at the event, while more than 480 featured exhibits are launching their global, Asian or China debuts.
South Korea's LG Energy Solution, making its debut at this year's CIIE, showcased battery products across three major cell formats to tap into China's diverse range of application scenarios.
Among the highlights was a prismatic lithium iron phosphate battery, making its first appearance in the Chinese market. Designed for commercial vehicles and energy storage systems, the battery adopts a stacked-cell structure to improve space utilization and reduce internal resistance, while offering advantages in energy density, fast charging, cycle life and safety, according to the company.
More importantly, the new launch is already moving toward new commercial applications in China. Under the latest cooperation with Nanjing Urban Construction Group, its prismatic LFP energy storage cells will be used in a grid-side independent energy storage station in Nanjing. The partnership also covers areas including bus battery swapping and battery recycling.
Sony, meanwhile, brought seven global debuts and five China debuts to this year's expo, with several innovations showing opportunities in emerging service sectors.
One of its global premieres was a privacy-friendly wireless fall detection system designed to support home-based elderly care, nursing institutions and community care services.
The system analyzes how human activities affect Wi-Fi signal transmission, combining channel state information and deep-learning algorithms to identify falls and issue alerts. Unlike conventional monitoring approaches, it requires neither wearable devices nor image capture, offering a privacy-conscious option for elderly care scenarios.
"Through the CIIE, we look forward to deepening local cooperation, combining our strengths in creativity and technology with the needs of the Chinese market, and supporting more Chinese creators in reaching the world," Takeshi Yoshida, corporate vice-president of Sony Group and president of Sony (China) Ltd, said.
For Heraeus, the focus was on materials supporting the rapid development of artificial intelligence and semiconductor technologies.
The German group made its China debut of an innovative probe material designed for testing applications in AI, high-performance computing and advanced packaging. Developed and manufactured by its Chinese team, the material is designed to deliver higher testing precision, smaller probe spacing and greater reliability, helping meet the requirements of increasingly sophisticated chip technologies.
The debut is part of the company's broader efforts to strengthen local innovation capabilities. In late October, Heraeus established a China innovation center, bringing the total number of its innovation centers in the country to six.
The group is also expanding local manufacturing capacity to serve growing demand from AI servers and high-end chips. The first phase of its platinum bushing expansion project began operations in August, with the second phase scheduled to start by the end of this year.
