OceanBase, incubated by Ant Group, is evolving from a distributed database provider into an AI data platform, aiming to offer enterprises unified AI data infrastructure and unlock the value of their data. As AI advances, the company continues to innovate in database technology and build a multimodal data foundation integrating data lakes and databases. Its goal is to enable a single system to support transaction processing, real-time analytics and AI applications, helping enterprises accelerate their intelligent transformation.
Founded in 2010, OceanBase has focused on independent R&D. Starting with support for core internet and financial operations, it has expanded into key sectors including finance, government, State-owned enterprises, telecommunications, energy and transportation. Today, it serves more than 4,000 customers worldwide, bringing China's homegrown database technology to a wider range of industries.
In technological innovation, OceanBase developed its distributed database architecture from the ground up and has continued to make breakthroughs in core database technologies. It has set world records in the international TPC-C and TPC-H database benchmarks. Over more than a decade, its technology has been tested in high-concurrency environments such as China's Singles' Day shopping festival, supporting Alipay's core transaction, accounting and payment systems. In 2021, OceanBase open-sourced its core code, promoting open innovation and providing independent technological support for storing and managing large volumes of data in key industries.
OceanBase has also achieved large-scale deployment across key industries through its integrated database capabilities. In finance, it serves nearly 70 percent of China's banks with assets exceeding one trillion yuan, 75 percent of leading insurance companies, 80 percent of leading securities firms and 60 percent of leading fund management companies in their core business systems. In digital government, its services cover 22 provincial-level regions and 20 major categories of government services. It supports core systems at one-third of China's centrally administered State-owned enterprises and serves critical business systems at hundreds of State-owned enterprises. In telecommunications, it works closely with China's three major telecom operators and provides stable services to more than one billion mobile users.
Its sustained advances in core technologies and industrial applications have earned recognition from multiple industry research institutions. OceanBase ranks first in China's distributed database market.
As AI applications expand, data is becoming increasingly important to unlocking AI's potential. Enterprise data is often scattered across databases, documents, images, audio and video in different systems and formats. Bringing these data together and enabling AI to retrieve, understand and use enterprise knowledge are key challenges in moving AI applications from experimentation to large-scale deployment.
In response, OceanBase is evolving its database technology into AI data infrastructure. In 2026, it launched an AI data platform integrating data lakes and databases within a unified architecture. The platform manages structured, semi-structured and unstructured data, allowing the same data to support business transactions, real-time analytics and AI applications. By reducing cross-system data replication, synchronization and redundant governance, it offers an integrated approach to common enterprise challenges, including fragmented data and complex AI application development.
To meet enterprise data needs in the AI era, OceanBase is developing three core capabilities: a unified foundation for enterprise multimodal data, a data foundation for AI agents, and an entry point for enterprise data intelligence services. Its product portfolio includes OceanBase Lakebase, DataStudio and DataPilot, covering data storage, development, governance and AI-powered data analytics. These products are helping enterprises move from unified data management to easier access and practical business applications. The capabilities are already being tested and applied in dozens of customer scenarios, including Ant Afu, Lingguang and Li Auto, as OceanBase explores further ways to integrate enterprise data with AI.
OceanBase is also expanding overseas, with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region. It provides database technology and services to global fintech companies, payment service providers and traditional financial institutions. Customers include GCash in the Philippines, DANA in Indonesia, TNG Digital in Malaysia, payment company 2C2P and PalmPay, which serves African markets. Their applications include critical payment, transaction and accounting operations.
OceanBase is also involved in modernizing banking systems in China's Hong Kong, as well as in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Laos, applying its technology to the development of financial infrastructure worldwide.
According to a report by Omdia, OceanBase ranked first in the distributed transactional database market in Asia and Oceania by revenue in 2025. The ranking highlights the global competitiveness and practical value of China's homegrown database technology, while providing a foundation for the company's further expansion in the global AI data infrastructure market.
From supporting core internet and financial operations to serving critical infrastructure across key industries and developing new data infrastructure for the AI era, the development of OceanBase reflects the progress of China's homegrown software industry in core technology innovation, industrial applications and global expansion. As AI adoption grows, the company will continue to advance database technologies and AI data platforms, explore new ways to unlock enterprise data value and support the global digital economy.
The World Internet Conference Distinguished Contribution Award recognizes individuals and enterprises that have made outstanding contributions to the global internet-related fields, including achievements in technological innovation, industrial development and social contribution. OceanBase's ongoing efforts in independent database innovation, applications in key industries, AI data platform development and global expansion demonstrates the technological capabilities and industrial value of China's homegrown software industry, as well as its potential for continued innovation in the AI era.
