China's top diplomat Wang Yi called on Monday for the resolution of disputes in the Middle East through dialogue, the safeguarding of regional energy security and shipping routes, and the building of a new regional security framework to achieve lasting peace and stability.
Wang, who is director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, made the remarks during talks in Beijing with Musaad bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, Saudi Arabia's minister of State, member of the Council of Ministers, and national security advisor.
Wang said the region had once again reached a critical crossroads between war and peace. Although the path to peace is not smooth, progress can be made through persistent effort, he said.
He expressed hope that all parties would work to end hostilities through dialogue and negotiations, saying countries in the region should enhance mutual understanding, rebuild trust, improve relations, and live in harmony.
China stands ready to strengthen communication and coordination with Saudi Arabia and other parties and play a constructive role in helping the region emerge from the shadow of conflict and achieve lasting peace and stability, he added.
On bilateral relations, Wang said China-Saudi Arabia ties have maintained steady development momentum and become a stabilizing force in the region. He added that China is willing to work with Saudi Arabia to make further progress in bilateral relations.
