The opening show by Petstar wove traditional Chinese craftsmanship — including frog buttons, piping, embroidery, silk velvet, and mother-of-pearl inlay — into coordinated human-pet apparel. Brand GIGIWAWA presented workplace-themed collections, while outdoor label Ruffwear partnered with Salomon to showcase functional pet gear for mountain adventures.
Zhu Jun, assistant general manager of Shanghai International Fashion Center Park Management Co, Ltd, said the domestic pet apparel segment is expanding rapidly. "Unlike overseas designs that prioritize functionality, domestic pet fashion is more an extension of the owners' aesthetic preferences and emotional bonds," she said. "Matching human-pet outfits are becoming a prevailing trend."
The event also builds a two-way channel to help Chinese pet brands with oriental aesthetics explore overseas markets, she added.
