The Chinese edition of a book by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan was unveiled in Beijing on Friday, offering Chinese readers a first-hand account of the country's reform drive over the past five years.
Uzbekistan on the Path to Sustainable Development and Prosperity, published by the People's Publishing House, is a collection of Mirziyoyev's speeches from 2021 to 2025 and interviews and articles carried by international media. Its eight chapters cover the country's domestic reforms, its engagement with the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Central Asia's place in its foreign policy, and its views on global sustainable development and regional connectivity.
Piao Yangfan, deputy secretary-general of the SCO, said one chapter is devoted to Uzbekistan's work in the organization. "As a founding member state, Uzbekistan has made important contributions to advancing cooperation across the SCO," she said.
Fu Xiaoqiang, president of the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, described the book as a systematic account of the thinking behind reforms in Uzbekistan.
"Although China and Uzbekistan differ in national conditions, both remain committed to a people-centered approach and respect each other's choice of path toward modernization," he said. "This shared understanding will inject lasting momentum into building a closer China-Uzbekistan community with a shared future."
Liu Qing, vice-president of the China Institute of International Studies, said: "It is not only an important window into the country's domestic and foreign policies, but also a valuable primary source for understanding development and transformation across Central Asia."
The book gives considerable weight to Uzbekistan's relations with China, Liu said. From Belt and Road collaboration and the China-Central Asia Summit to the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, Mirziyoyev's remarks show how far the China-Uzbekistan all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership for a new era has come, he said.
China and Uzbekistan elevated their ties to an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership for a new era in 2024.
