Biopharmaceutical company CSL shifts strategy with sights set on expansion
Biopharmaceutical company CSL is looking to deepen its presence in China through local innovation partnerships, as the company marks 40 years in the market and prepares to make its debut at the upcoming 2026 China International Import Expo.
"We want to move beyond 'in China, for China' toward 'in China, for the world'," Cissy Wang, general manager of CSL China, said. The company has held discussions with more than 100 biotech projects in China and hopes to announce new partnerships with Chinese companies by the end of the year, she said.
Wang said China's speed and quality of innovation have made it an increasingly important source of potential partners. CSL is focusing on areas such as hematological and immune diseases and is evaluating both technology-platform collaborations and partnerships around specific products.
CSL entered China in 1986, initially supplying human albumin. Its first participation in the CIIE this year marks a new stage in its China strategy, which Wang described as centered on "3N": new products, new collaborations, and new efficiency.
