In Lianjiang community, Yunnan province's Eshan Yi autonomous county, a neighborhood renovation has brought residents of different ethnic groups closer together.
Since 2019, walls separating residential compounds have been removed, shared spaces created and new facilities added, including a Yi embroidery workshop, a library and a community canteen.
Today, more than 11,000 residents from ethnic groups including the Han, Yi, Hani and Hui live in the community. From cultural workshops to monthly themed activities, residents have more opportunities to interact, celebrate their traditions and build friendships, making ethnic diversity a natural part of everyday life.
