Li Chijiang, ambassador for Disarmament Affairs of China, called for the prevention of an arms race in and the weaponization of outer space at the thematic debate on outer space at the First Committee of the 81st Session of the UNGA on Tuesday. All states should uphold the proposition that "space war cannot be won and must never be fought". No state should seek to dominate outer space, nor engage in great-power competition or confrontation in outer space, he said.
