Da Ren Tang reinterprets traditional Chinese medicine for modern consumers
If you still picture traditional Chinese medicine as wooden medicine cabinets, piles of raw herbs, and bowls of bitter brews, a visit to Tianjin Pharmaceutical Da Ren Tang Group offers a refreshing perspective.
The centuries-old enterprise keeps ancestral craftsmanship intact while reinterpreting TCM through creative consumer goods and technical upgrades.
Beyond well-known dripping-pill preparations, including the state-secret formula Suxiao Jiuxin Pills, the brand has rolled out lifestyle-oriented TCM products that blend food-medicine homologous ingredients into everyday items, such as sleep-aiding herbal sachets, herbal-infused coffee, tea, ice cream, lip balm, and cultural-creative merchandise.
Facing industry-wide challenges, DRTG has boosted research input. Its 2026 first-half R&D expenditure rose almost 30 percent year-on-year, covering 109 projects on new drugs and digital healthcare. An AI micro-boiling robot, jointly developed with Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, optimizes herbal extraction with AI and digital-twin technology to lift output and cut energy use.
Having secured Therapeutic Goods Administration certification for markets across 24 countries and regions, the firm will share its experience of inheriting and innovating TCM at the 23rd World Congress of Chinese Medicine in Singapore.
