China's National Day holiday boosts tourism with 826 million domestic trips
China's domestic tourism saw stable growth over the just-concluded weeklong National Day holiday from Oct 1 to 7.
Latest figures from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on Friday show that Chinese travelers made 826 million domestic trips over the weeklong holiday, with their tourism spending hitting about 738.4 billion yuan ($110.2 billion). Daily domestic tourist trips and spending grew by 6.3 percent and 4.3 percent, respectively, year-on-year from the same period of 2025.
Tours to the countryside or places for autumn scenery, "red tourism" — visits to locations with historical significance to the Chinese Communist Party — and night tours were popular among tourists.
The inbound tourism market also registered growth during the holiday. According to the ministry, the Chinese mainland received about 2.98 million visits over the period, and the daily visits increased by 19 percent and 6.5 percent, respectively, from that in 2024 and 2025.
