TUFE research team analyzes China's global economic narrative

A research team led by Liu Tingting, vice-dean of the School of Humanities at Tianjin University of Finance and Economics, is exploring interdisciplinary approaches to make China's economic narratives more accessible to global audiences.

Bringing together experts in linguistics, economics, international communication and artificial intelligence, the team examines how China's economic practices and ideas can be communicated more effectively across diverse languages and cultures.

This year, the team was granted two national invention patents. It is also developing bilingual Chinese-foreign financial and economic corpora, intelligent analytical models and supporting research platforms, Liu said.

At the center of the research is an analytical framework examining three key areas: economic logic, linguistic expression and communication effectiveness.

"Instead of simply checking whether information has reached overseas audiences, the project examines how economic ideas are expressed through language and how they are understood by those audiences," Liu said.

To analyze large volumes of Chinese and foreign financial and economic texts, the team uses natural language processing and machine learning. Its approach emphasizes human-machine collaboration: AI helps process large-scale corpora more efficiently, while researchers assess linguistic nuances, context and specialized financial content.

The team is also developing an integrated intelligent analysis platform designed for use by international-facing media organizations, Chinese companies operating overseas and academic institutions.

Liu said the ongoing research aims to provide empirical evidence on how China's financial and economic discourse is communicated and understood internationally, and to identify ways to improve cross-cultural communication.
