Beijing Daxing Airport celebrates seventh anniversary

Beijing Daxing International Airport has handled over 238 million passenger trips since its opening in 2019, the airport announced on Thursday as it kicked off celebrations for its seventh anniversary.

The airport anticipates managing an additional 1.79 million passenger trips and 11,040 flights during the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays. Traffic is expected to peak on Oct 1, with approximately 180,000 passenger trips and 1,150 flights.

Last year, the airport set a record with 53.6 million passenger trips and has already served more than 41 million passengers this year. Over the past seven years, its network has expanded to cover more than 210 destinations worldwide.

To enhance the travel experience, the airport unveiled seven new service initiatives on Thursday, including China's first airport service allowing domestic passengers to check in a day before departure. International passengers arriving early can also use shared check-in counters without waiting for their dedicated counters to open.

Other measures include paperless travel using Chinese ID cards for check-in, security checks, and boarding. Expedited lanes, available at all domestic security screening areas, save an average of about three minutes per passenger.

The new services were introduced at an aviation and tourism carnival featuring nearly 70 booths operated by airlines, airports, tourism authorities, and other organizations. The Daxing airport also signed a memorandum of understanding with Hainan's tourism authorities to strengthen cooperation. Cultural performances and travel promotions will continue as part of its holiday activities.
