Rescue work ends after factory blaze in Foshan, Guangdong

As of noon on Monday, search and rescue work has ended for a blaze that broke out in a factory in Shunde district of Foshan, Guangdong province.

Eight people were confirmed killed, and one was injured, according to a statement released by local authorities. The wounded person has stable vital signs and will remain at the hospital for further treatment and medical observation.

The blaze occurred in the Changxing industrial park in Jun'an town at 3:45 pm on Sunday. The factory building where the fire broke out is a two‑story brick‑concrete sub‑leased factory building. The burned area reaches about 200 square meters, and the blaze did not spread to other areas. A total of 63 people were rescued and evacuated at and around the scene.

Upon receiving a report, fire and rescue forces rushed to the scene and were able to get the fire under control at 4:10 pm.

Investigations into the cause of the incident are still underway, and further information will be announced to the public promptly, the statement said.
