The China Marrow Donor Program, a nonprofit organization that runs the national bank of donors and volunteers, said on Friday that it has recorded its 24,000th bone marrow donation.

The organization said that it took more than 20 years for the number of unrelated hematopoietic stem cell donations to reach 10,000, while the jump from 23,000 to 24,000 took only 112 days.

The steadily shortening time frame needed for each additional 1,000 donations reflects the program's progress in refining management, intelligent matching, and efficient coordination, the organization said.

The 24,000th participant is a longtime blood donor who completed the donation on Friday. On the same day, three more donors — a firefighter, a veteran, and a delivery courier — also made donations.

The organization said that the program has registered nearly 3.79 million volunteers.

Among the 24,000-plus donations, 441 went to 35 countries and regions overseas.
