13th Beijing Xiangshan Forum aims to tackle pressing international challenges, officials say

Preparations are largely complete for the 13th Beijing Xiangshan Forum, scheduled for Sept 15 to 17 at the Beijing International Convention Center.

The forum has invited defense officials and military leaders from multiple countries, heads of international and regional organizations, and leading experts and scholars, Colonel Li Fei, director of the office of the China Association for Military Science, said during a media briefing on Tuesday.

He said that the balance and representativeness of the participants have been improved for this year's forum.

The three-day event will run alongside the fourth China-Africa Peace and Security Forum to maximize resource sharing and outcome alignment.

Themed "Building Consensus on Stability and Advancing Security Governance Together", the 13th Beijing Xiangshan Forum will feature four plenary sessions and eight parallel thematic discussions. This year also marks the forum's 20th anniversary.

The four plenary sessions focus on international order and strategic stability, localized conflicts, predicaments and pathways to resolution, risks and challenges to security and stability in the Asia-Pacific, and the role and vision of developing countries.

Officials said the forum's agenda conveys China's propositions and responds directly to pressing international concerns.

Additionally, the forum will host high-level interviews and closed-door academic meetings and dialogues between renowned Chinese and foreign scholars, further diversifying the formats of exchange and deepening mutual learning between China and other countries, according to Li.
