"I never imagined a shuttle bus could be this lovely," said Zhang Xuemeng, one of the first passengers, who boarded the bus with her dog and cat. "Even my dog was wagging its tail excitedly all the way."

The bus serves the Claw Field Fun Park, which offers pet boarding, daycare, and training. The park also cooperates with the College of Veterinary Medicine at Yangzhou University to run regular free veterinary clinics and pet-care education.

The initiative is part of Yangzhou's wider ambitions for its pet economy. At the end of 2025, the city announced plans to grow its pet industry to more than 3 billion yuan ($446 million) by 2027.
