China's cosmetics sector glowing as the future looks beautiful
China's cosmetics industry is marching toward long-termism, industry experts said. "In March 2025, Jing'an district established an integrated development layout combining beauty technology, achievement transformation, and first launch economy. Based on its comparative advantages, it has created a beauty and health innovation ecological community," Ding Xu, a staff member of the Commission of Economy and Informatization of Jing'an district, said at a forum hosted by China Cosmetics.
With more than a year of development, the community has introduced over 130 enterprises. At present, Jing'an district has gathered more than 90 beauty and health enterprises above the designated size, including eight headquarters-type enterprises such as L'Oreal, Clarins, Mary Kay, etc.
"Jing'an district has established a policy support system that includes research and development investment subsidies, talent housing guarantees, construction of public service platforms, registration and filing of new cosmetic raw materials, vertical application of artificial intelligence, and transformation of scientific and technological achievements," Ding said.
Lu Nan, secretary-general of the Shanghai Institute of Medical Aesthetics and Skin Health and founder of SkinVision Lab, said, "China has abundant clinical resources in medical beauty, which provides unique advantages for technological innovation in China's cosmetics and medical beauty industries."
