Fudan University unveils smart services to welcome intl freshmen

Fudan University in Shanghai welcomed over 5,100 undergraduate freshmen from across the world on Sunday. This year's move-in day showcased a tech-driven orientation, featuring the application of artificial intelligence technologies with student-centric campus services.

Stepping into the campus, the new students were greeted by interactive AI guides, alongside robotic dogs assisting students with carrying luggage.

The university also introduced a "DanDAO" interactive AI platform to better help them settle into their new life on campus. It operated 24/7 across eight campus life scenarios, from dining and health insurance to shuttle buses. The system has already answered over 5,000 student queries since launch.

Another AI tool, "Dan Xiaoxin", aggregates diverse authoritative information and orientation announcements from the university's official website and WeChat accounts. The university also upgraded its eHall online portal, simplifying check‑in procedures and task management through a unified digital interface.

To support its growing international community, Fudan also inaugurated the International Student Service Center, offering administrative support for global students.

Evita Lazarenka, an international student from Belarus, shared her excitement to start her new life chapter at Fudan. Joining the university's School of Management, she started learning Chinese in senior high school and is captivated by Chinese culture.

"China is developing so rapidly, and I believe studying here will open up more opportunities for my future," said Lazarenka.

Beyond digital innovation, it is worth noting that the university launched 13 specialized program clusters this year, focusing on emerging future industries and key technological sectors demanding major breakthroughs.
