Heavy rain will sweep across the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region from north to south through Saturday, with localized torrential downpours expected, according to the Guangxi Meteorological Observatory.

As of 8 am Friday, water levels at 20 monitoring stations along 14 rivers had exceeded warning levels, as rainfall that began Thursday continued across the region.

Water levels in the Mingjiang and Zuojiang rivers are receding, while the Nanning section of the Yujiang River is approaching its flood peak. Water levels continue to rise in the river's Guigang section.

Hydrological authorities forecast that the Yujiang River in urban Guigang could rise to about 3 meters above the warning level within the next 24 hours.

The rainfall is being driven by an upper-level trough, a shear line and cold air, the observatory said.
