Three dead, many missing after major border mudslide

A mudslide disaster affecting Gyirong county in Shigatse, Xizang autonomous region, has left three people dead and 265 others missing as of 8 pm local time on Wednesday, Xinhua News Agency reported.

It said the figures were released by the front-line command center after preliminary verification. The exact number of casualties is still being checked, and rescue operations are proceeding in an orderly manner.

The mudslide occurred at around 10:30 am on the Nepalese side of the border, affecting Gyirong port in Gyirong county, Shigatse, causing significant casualties and resulting in many people going missing.

The mudslide also cut off roads leading toward Gyirong port, according to the report.
