The Second World Humanoid Robot Games are set to kick off on Saturday in spectacular fashion at Beijing's National Speed Skating Oval, also known as the Ice Ribbon.
Running from Aug 22 to 26, the games will move beyond standardized arenas into real-life urban operating environments, with the aim of testing the robots' ability to adapt to different environments and perform operations with their hands.
Preliminary competitions began this week, including an emergency rescue contest.
