Firefighter confirmed dead in Fujian shipyard fire
One firefighter has been confirmed dead after an explosion occurred at a shipbuilding plant in Fu'an city, Fujian province on Thursday afternoon, according to a statement released by the city's fire and rescue bureau on Thursday night.
At around 1:09 pm, a fire broke out on a ship in Gantang township which rescue forces responded to at 1:25 pm.
During the firefighters' efforts to contain the situation, an explosion occurred on-site at 2:10 pm, injuring 12 people, including 10 firefighters.
All those injured were immediately transported to the hospital for treatment.
Unfortunately, at 6:50 pm, one firefighter was confirmed dead despite medical efforts.
As of the statement release, the fire had been effectively controlled, while investigations continue to ascertain the cause of the fire.
