Chinese memory chipmaker CXMT was the world's fastest-growing DRAM supplier in the second quarter, with revenue surging 716 percent year-on-year, according to the latest data from global technology market intelligence company Counterpoint Research.

The results mean CXMT has a global revenue share of 7 percent, behind only the industry's three established leaders. Samsung Electronics ranked first with a 39 percent revenue share, followed by SK Hynix at 26 percent, and Micron at 25 percent.

CXMT also outpaced other fast-growing suppliers. Nanya Technology, another notable performer during the quarter, recorded a 690 percent year-on-year increase in revenue.

Neil Shah, vice-president of research at Counterpoint, said CXMT's development in the second half would hinge partly on how it uses its recent initial public offering to expand capacity for HBM and LPDDR6.

"If CXMT can expand its capacity and capability to meet domestic and overseas demand, starting with PCs and potential Tier-1 international customers, the supplier's market share will balloon and look a lot different a year from now," Shah said. "The question is not about 'how' but 'when' CXMT will be able to break into the Big Three Memory Club."
