Hongqiao airport upgrades services for inbound and transit passengers
In the first half of 2026, more than 2.046 million foreign travelers entered China via Shanghai under visa-free entry policies or the 240-hour visa-free transit policy, accounting for over 60 percent of all inbound foreign travelers entering via Shanghai.
To meet the needs of inbound and transit passengers, Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport has introduced a range of enhanced services covering luggage storage, wheelchair rentals, travel advice, currency exchange, and departure tax refunds.
Free luggage storage
To make it easier for travelers to explore the city during transit, short trips, or business visits, Hongqiao airport now provides complimentary luggage storage.
Passengers eligible for visa-free transit may store one piece of luggage free of charge at the luggage service center opposite Door 6 in the public departure area of Terminal 1. There are no size restrictions, and luggage can be stored for up to 72 hours.
