Experts hail CPC's 105-year mission of serving the people
The commitment of the Communist Party of China is reflected in its efforts to eradicate poverty, build a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and advance Chinese modernization on multiple fronts, which are poised to benefit the global community as well, experts said.
Addressing a grand gathering in Beijing on Wednesday marking the CPC's 105th founding anniversary, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, called on Party members to remain steadfast in their convictions and work tirelessly to fulfill the Party's missions in the new era and on the new journey.
Xi, who is also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, said that as profound changes unseen in a century accelerate, the world has entered a new period of turbulence and transformation, with humanity once again standing at a crossroads of choice.
"We must continuously promote the building of a community with a shared future for humanity," he said.
The 105-year history of the CPC is, in essence, a history of continuously improving the lives of the Chinese people, said Wirun Phichaiwongphakdee, director of the Thailand-China Research Center of the Belt and Road Initiative.
"Today, more than 1.4 billion Chinese people enjoy a stable environment for development, better education and healthcare systems, more advanced infrastructure, and steadily improving living standards. These achievements demonstrate the CPC's commitment to the people-oriented principle," he said.
He said that the fundamental reason the CPC has continued to achieve historic milestones lies in its steadfast commitment to putting the people first, pursuing self-reform, and keeping pace with the times. "President Xi has repeatedly stressed the importance of 'staying true to the Party's founding mission'. I believe these words are the key to understanding the CPC," he added.
Carlos Martinez, a British political commentator and co-founder of Friends of Socialist China, said that Xi's speech identified the defining characteristics of the CPC: being determined to pursue truth, deeply rooted in the people, courageously shouldering the historical mission, conforming to the trend of development, having the courage and ability to struggle and focusing on strengthening itself.
"These are best understood as interrelated, all flowing from a single mission: to serve the people and achieve national rejuvenation. This is a continuous feature of the Party since (its founding in) 1921," he said.
Jon R. Taylor, chair of the Department of Political Science and Geography at the University of Texas at San Antonio, said, "General Secretary Xi Jinping's remarks highlighted the importance of carrying forward the great founding spirit of the CPC.
"Xi's speech displayed confidence in both China and the CPC. His speech highlighted a leader who has a vision about China and the CPC's future," he said.
In Xi's assessment of the external environment, he acknowledged that China is navigating a world marked by turbulence and challenges, while highlighting China's foreign policy concept, which aims to build a community with a shared future, Taylor said.
Bhokin Bhalakula, former president of the National Assembly of Thailand, said that the CPC's influence extends beyond merely driving China's development, and is also evident in its contributions to global development.
"I have always believed that the CPC's greatest international contribution is linking Chinese modernization with the common development of humanity," he said.
What the international community most needs today is stability, certainty and development opportunities. Through high-quality development, high-standard opening-up and robust collaboration under the BRI, the CPC is transforming its strengths into development opportunities for an increasing number of countries, he said.
