Xi to confer July 1 Medal, address CPC anniversary gathering
Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, will confer the July 1 Medal — the Party's highest honor — on model CPC members at a gathering on Wednesday in Beijing, marking the Party's 105th founding anniversary.
Xi, who is also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, will deliver an important speech at the event, which will begin at 10 am at the Great Hall of the People.
At the gathering, outstanding Party members, Party workers and primary-level Party organizations from across the country will also be honored.
The event will be broadcast live by China Media Group and xinhuanet.com.
On Monday evening, a concert was held at the Great Hall of the People in downtown Beijing to celebrate in advance the 105th anniversary of the founding of the CPC.
Xi and other Party and State leaders Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi and Han Zheng walked into the venue shortly before 8 pm.
They joined about 3,000 people to watch the performance, titled Putting the People First. Other attendees included leading officials from central Party and State institutions, as well as retired senior officials.
The concert, consisting of five sections, featured choral performances, orchestral music and other artistic expressions. It concluded with the song Without the Communist Party, There Would Be No New China.
The CPC was founded on July 1,1921.
