5 hikers dead, 4 rescued in 'Bayonet Canyon' incident

Five outdoor enthusiasts have died, while four others were rescued after they were trapped in a rugged canyon in Xianyou county, Putian, East China's Fujian province, on Sunday, local authorities confirmed on Monday.
The incident occurred in an area known locally as "Bayonet Canyon" for its bayonet-shaped mountain fissures. A group of nine hikers encountered severe danger while exploring the area. Upon receiving the report, local authorities immediately organized rescue forces to the site, Xinhua News Agency reported.
