Former senior sports official sentenced to 13 years for embezzlement

Hu Guangyu, a former senior official from the General Administration of Sport of China, was sentenced to 13 years' imprisonment by a court in Beijing on Monday for embezzlement.
In addition, he was also fined 3 million yuan ($441,591), according to the ruling announced by the Beijing No 1 Intermediate People's Court.
The recovered assets were returned to the defrauded department, while Hu remains liable for the full amount of all illegal proceeds. Any shortfall will be subject to further recovery orders, the ruling added. No more details were released.
Before Hu was placed under disciplinary and supervisory investigation in January 2023, he served as deputy head of the administration's policy and law division.
