BEIJING -- The Democratic Progressive Party authorities are troublemakers undermining regional peace and stability by stubbornly clinging to the separatist stance of "Taiwan independence," a Chinese mainland spokeswoman said Wednesday.

Zhang Han, a spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said seeking secession by relying on external forces and building up military forces is the root cause of tensions and turbulence across the Taiwan Strait.

Only when the DPP authorities recognize the 1992 Consensus, which embodies the one-China principle, and cease all "Taiwan independence" separatist acts, can cross-Strait consultations and dialogues resume and cross-Strait relations return to the correct path of peaceful development, Zhang told media.

Zhang stressed that the mainland is willing to strive for peaceful reunification with the greatest sincerity and utmost efforts, but will never promise to renounce the use of force, nor will it leave any room for "Taiwan independence" separatist activities in any form.
