Thought on Party Building a guiding value

A key Party meeting underlined on Monday the major practical significance and long-term guiding value of Xi Jinping Thought on Party Building in strengthening the Party and the country, stressing the Thought as the fundamental guideline for boosting Party building in the new era.

The key role of the Thought, an important component of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, was underscored at a national conference on Party building in Beijing.

Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, attended and addressed the conference. Li Xi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, also attended.

According to the conference, since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the CPC Central Committee with Xi Jinping at its core has set forth a series of new ideas, thoughts and strategies in addressing the major questions of the times — what kind of Marxist party exercising long-term governance should be built and how such a party should be built.

In the process, Xi Jinping Thought on Party Building has taken shape. The Thought encompasses a broad set of principles, including upholding the Party's leadership as the defining feature of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the centralized, unified leadership of the Party Central Committee, exercising full and rigorous Party self-governance and remaining true to the Party's original aspiration and founding mission.

Other principles include upholding the strengthening of the Party politically as the overarching guide for all other initiatives, using the Party's new theory to enhance cohesion and forge souls, and enhancing Party consciousness.

The Thought also stresses the need to keep refining an organizational system that is integrated from top to bottom and capable of effective implementation, cultivating officials capable of shouldering the mission of national rejuvenation and making consistent and sustained efforts to improve Party conduct.

The CPC must continue using strict discipline in exercising self-governance, taking coordinated steps to ensure that officials do not have the audacity, opportunity or desire to be corrupt, running the Party with systems and regulations and implementing the political responsibility for the Party's self-governance, according to the Thought.

The conference's participants said that drawing on Marxist theories, the Thought is rooted in China's fine traditional culture and has been nurtured through the Party's full and rigorous self-governance in the new era.

The conference called the study and implementation of Xi Jinping Thought on Party Building "an important political task" for the entire Party, both now and in the years ahead.
