Mainland companies sign deals to buy signature Taiwan agricultural and fishery products
Enterprises from the Chinese mainland signed agreements in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, on Saturday to procure signature Taiwan agricultural and fishery products, including atemoya, pomelos, and specialty tea from counties such as Taitung, Yunlin, and Nantou.
The signing ceremony held during the 18th Straits Forum serves as a major step forward in implementing the 10 cross-Strait cooperation policies introduced in April, focusing heavily on the practical livelihood needs of grassroots families and small business operators.
Song Tao, director of the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, addressed the ceremony, emphasizing that adhering to the 1992 Consensus and opposing "Taiwan independence" are the fundamental prerequisites for cross-Strait peace.
He noted that only by recognizing the one-China principle can cross-Strait relations develop peacefully, ensuring tranquility in the Taiwan Strait and guaranteeing the long-term well-being and benefits of all compatriots.
Chang Jung-kung, vice-chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang, said that cross-Strait exchange remains the best channel for boosting mutual understanding, pledging the KMT's commitment to striving for peace and public well-being.
Taiwan entrepreneurs hailed the 10 policies as a strong booster to revitalize local industries, helping stranded agricultural goods enter the mainland market so that farmers can enjoy the practical dividends of peace.
"I am deeply thrilled to sign this contract with Hunan province for purchasing Taiwan's atemoya," Yang Chi-chun, vice-chairman of the Taiwan Agricultural United Marketing Cooperation, said.
"It is a profound joy to bring the hard-earned fruits of Taiwan's diligent and hardworking farmers into the vast mainland market," Yang added during the signing ceremony.
