China's top cyberspace regulator announced on Tuesday that several online accounts have been penalized for using artificial intelligence to create and disseminate false military-related information.

This action is part of a special campaign initiated earlier this year to clean up the online environment. The Office of Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission stated that such misconduct misled public perception and damaged the military's image.

The regulator highlighted several typical cases where accounts used AI to fabricate false military-related stories. In one instance, an account generated a story about a pregnant woman who allegedly cried and complained online after her husband died during a military mission, urging users to like and share the content to gain traffic and followers.

Additionally, some accounts were found to have used AI to create vulgar military-related videos. For example, one account produced AI-generated videos featuring people in military uniforms, including content showing a person aiming a gun at the camera and threatening to shoot. Other accounts used AI to mock or distort the image of military-related public figures, the regulator said.
