An international communication center was launched in Shaoguan, Guangdong province, on Thursday, with the aim of promoting the city's overall development on the global stage.

Collaborative communication activities centered around culture, ecology and industry of Shaoguan, were also launched, with certificates being awarded to the city's first batch of international communication ambassadors.

The center was established on the base of an international communication project team, which was built by the information office of the local government, in collaboration with Shaoguan University and the local cultural communication group.

Over the years, the team has successfully organized or participated in 36 foreign-related events and has published 4,000 multilingual content pieces across various media and social platforms, amassing a total of over 35 million views.

Shaoguan, located in the northern part of Guangdong, is commonly regarded as the hometown to millions of Cantonese people around the world.

It is believed that ancestors of the Cantonese people moved from Zhuji Alley in Nanxiong, a county-level city in the northern part of Shaoguan, to the Pearl River Delta region hundreds of years ago, and from there they embarked on worldwide migration.

The city is also well known for protection of natural ecological sites including the Danxia Mountain, a UNESCO-listed natural world heritage site known for its reddish rock formations.

The mountain is characterized by spectacular red cliffs and a range of erosion landforms, including dramatic natural pillars, towers, ravines, valleys and waterfalls.
