Weifang, with about 9.3 million population in East China's Shandong province, recorded over 14 million visits to its public reading spaces last year.

The city, with an 8,000-year cultural history, doesn't just discuss its passion for reading. More than nine centuries ago, poet Su Zhe (1039–1112) described it as "one hundred thousand households, all devoted to reading". Today, that verse is reality.
