Shanghai Disney Resort celebrates Earth Day

Shanghai Disney Resort marked Earth Day on Wednesday with its annual nature conservation forum. A research report on the ecological development of the company's "wishing star park" was also released.

The report, titled "creating an urban wetland ecosystem: a case study of Shanghai Disney Resort's wishing star park", details how environmentally conscious design, construction, and operations have promoted diverse wildlife development in an urban setting.

Based on 11 years of bird observation data collected since 2015, the research highlights ecological progress. Over 133 bird species and 62,000 individual birds have been recorded as of March, with approximately 90 percent of bird populations either maintaining stable numbers or showing population growth.

The conservation forum featured speakers including National Geographic explorer and marine biologist Asha de Vos, who shared her research on blue and sperm whales. Her findings revealed complex communication systems and social structures among the marine mammals.

National Geographic explorer Huang Qiaowen shared insights from her decade-long research on human-wildlife coexistence. She emphasized the crucial role of leopards as "umbrella species", explaining how protecting these predators benefits entire ecosystems through cascading conservation effects.

To inspire environmental awareness among younger generations, student representatives from the second youth environmental inspiration program attended the event. Their projects, selected from more than 100 submissions, explored energy-saving innovations and environmental observations from diverse perspectives.
