HONG KONG -- Residents affected by a massive fire in Wang Fuk Court of Tai Po, Hong Kong, in 2025 began returning to their units in batches from Monday to collect their belongings.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government mobilized more than 1,000 personnel to support the operation, which will continue until May 4, and to ensure the residents' safety.

All returning residents will be provided with helmets, face masks, gloves and other safety equipment. They will be escorted by police officers or Civil Aid Service members when going to and from their units, according to Cheuk Wing-hing, deputy chief secretary for administration of the HKSAR government.

Chris Tang Ping-keung, secretary for security of the HKSAR government, said that there will be police officers and Civil Aid Service members on each floor to provide residents with immediate assistance. He added that medical and emergency personnel will be on standby with ambulances.
