Step into thousand-year painting: Spring in Xi'an
"The weather's fine in the third moon on the third day, by riverside so many beauties in array."
Zhang Xuan, a famous court painter in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), depicted a spring outing of Tang noblewomen on the Shangsi Festival in Chang'an (today's Xi'an) in his masterpiece Lady Guoguo's Spring Outing, echoing the poetic mood of Du Fu's verses.
On this traditional festival (the 3rd day of the 3rd month of the Chinese calendar), these noble ladies of the Tang Palace strolled along the bank of Qujiang Pool, enjoying the spring scenery in elegance.
A thousand years on, Qujiang Pool Heritage Park in Xi'an in Northwestern China's Shaanxi province retains its everlasting grace, yet boasts more vivid and radiant beauty, inviting visitors to step into this poetic site and embrace a timeless springtime journey.
