China delivers world's largest electric-powered intelligent container ship
After completing various tests, China's first and the world's largest all-electric intelligent container ship was delivered in Ningbo, Zhejiang province on Wednesday.
With a capacity of 740 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit), the vessel is formally named "Ning Yuan Dian Kun". It is independently developed and designed by Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute, while its electric propulsion system is provided by Shanghai Marine Equipment Research Institute.
Both of the two organizations are subsidiaries of the China State Shipbuilding Corp.
With a length of 127.8 meters and a width of 21.6 meters, the ship is tailor-made for Ningbo Ocean Shipping Co Ltd and will operate on the coastal shipping route between Ningbo and Jiaxing in Zhejiang province.
