Former senior Chinese military officer Liao Xilong dies

BEIJING -- Liao Xilong, a former member of the Central Military Commission and former chief of the then General Logistics Department of the People's Liberation Army, died of illness on Jan 23 in Beijing at the age of 85.
The remains of Liao were cremated at the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery on Thursday.
Liao was promoted to the rank of general in 2000.
Xi Jinping, Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi, Han Zheng and Hu Jintao, among others, had either visited Liao when he was in hospital or expressed condolences over his passing and offered sympathies to his family through various means.
