Wang: China ready to play a constructive role in Iran situation
Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on Thursday on all parties to cherish peace, exercise restraint, and resolve differences through dialogue, saying that China stands ready to play a constructive role regarding the current situation in Iran, during a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
Araghchi briefed Wang on the latest developments in Iran, saying that recent unrest in the country was instigated by external forces and the situation has now returned to stability.
He noted that Iran is prepared to respond to external interference, while stressing that the door to dialogue remains open. Araghchi expressed hope that China would play a greater role in promoting peace and stability in the region.
Wang said China consistently upholds the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and international law. China opposes the use or threat of force in international relations, rejects imposing one country's will on others, and opposes the world sliding back into a "law of the jungle," he said.
Wang expressed confidence that the Iranian government and people will remain united, overcome difficulties, maintain national stability, and safeguard their legitimate rights and interests.
