An infrared camera positioned at an altitude of about 2,800 meters captured rare footage on Thursday of a wild giant panda mother and her cub leisurely walking through the snow in the Chongzhou section of the Giant Panda National Park in Sichuan province.

The video footage shows the mother panda walking in the front. She suddenly pauses and checks to see her chubby panda cub crawling out of the bushes and struggling to catch up. Once assured the cub is following, the mother leads her baby deeper into the forest.

In July last year, infrared cameras installed in the area also captured an adult panda on four separate occasions, either strolling or foraging in the bamboo forest.

Yu Xinyuan, a staff member at the national park, said the panda appeared healthy and strong according to the footage.
