Xi hails 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges
President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter on Thursday to the opening ceremony of the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, calling for enhanced mutual learning between civilizations to contribute to the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.
Noting that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the start of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Africa, Xi said that the launching of the themed year is an important consensus reached between the leaders of the two sides. He described the initiative as a key step in further strengthening the foundation of China-Africa friendship at a new historical juncture.
Xi emphasized the importance of exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, saying it is a lasting driving force for human progress as well as world peace and development.
Civilizations of China and Africa have enriched and inspired each other over centuries, forming a historical and intellectual source of enduring China-Africa friendship, he added.
