Mainland voices opposition to engagement between US and Taiwan
The mainland firmly opposes any official engagement between the United States and the Taiwan region, as Taiwan is an inseparable part of China's territory, said Jiang Bin, spokesman of China's Ministry of National Defense, on Friday.
China urges the US side to adhere to the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-US joint communiqués, fulfill its promise of not supporting "Taiwan independence" and stop any form of official exchanges and military connection with China's Taiwan region, Jiang said in an online release on Friday afternoon.
China also urges the US to stop conniving at or supporting "Taiwan independence" separatists, he said, adding that the People's Liberation Army will stay on high alert at all times and will take resolute measures to safeguard the national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
