The Beijing Meteorological Service lifted its yellow rainstorm alert on Tuesday afternoon, marking the end to days of torrential rainfall, with scattered thunderstorms forecast in the evening.

The days-long downpour inundated the city with precipitation up to 543.4 millimeters, nearly equal to the city's average annual rainfall of 600 mm, according to data from the service.

Earlier on Monday, Beijing issued its first red rainstorm alert this year, the highest in its four-tier colored warning system, following an earlier upgrade to orange hours earlier.

With the rainfall subsiding, several municipal parks, including the Temple of Heaven and the Summer Palace, announced their reopening to the public on Tuesday.
