30 dead amid heavy rainfall in Beijing, rescue efforts ongoing

Continuous extreme heavy rainfall in Beijing has resulted in 30 deaths, with 28 in the northeastern Miyun district and two in the northwestern district of Yanqing.

As of 24:00 on July 28, the city recorded an average precipitation of 165.9 millimeters, with the highest precipitation recorded in Langfangyu and Zhujiayu in Miyun, reaching 543.4 mm; while the highest precipitation intensity was observed in Dongyu, Huairou, with 95.3 mm of rainfall between 22:00 to 23:00 on July 26.

In response to the disasters, Beijing has strengthened flood prevention and control measures, initiated active search efforts for missing persons, focused on vulnerable areas, deployed rescue forces and relief supplies, properly resettling affected people, and making every effort to minimize casualties.

The disaster has left 31 roads damaged, including 16 routes such as Xingyang Line and Xihuo Road that remain unrepaired. Power outages have affected 136 villages, with 62 optical cables and 1,825 base stations damaged.

To date, 80,332 people have been relocated, with Miyun, Huairou and Fangshan being the districts with the highest numbers of relocated individuals.

In Miyun, 16,934 people have been relocated from 19 townships, 10,464 people from 15 townships in Huairou, and 9,904 people from 21 townships in Fangshan.

Rescue, treatment, resettlement, emergency repairs, and other disaster related work are ongoing.
