State Grid powers 2025 Jiangsu Football City League

To ensure uninterrupted power supply for the immensely popular 2025 Jiangsu Football City League, also known as Suchao, the State Grid Changzhou Power Supply Company powered up a new 630 Kilovolt-ampere transformer on July 18 in Xinbei district, Changzhou city.
According to the State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Company, from May 10 to July 14, the electricity consumption in Jiangsu's eight major service industries increased by 12.7 percent year-on-year.
Sports facility management units in Jiangsu saw a 15.3 percent year-on-year increase in electricity consumption, with electricity usage for sports organizations surging 24.9 percent year-on-year. In concentrated areas for sports goods manufacturing industries in Nantong and Suzhou, electricity consumption increased by 9 and 5.6 percent respectively year-on-year. Meanwhile, the electricity consumption in Jiangsu's catering industry increased by 13.3 percent year-on-year, while non-main meal services such as snacks and bars saw a significant increase of 19.1 percent year-on-year. Furthermore, electricity consumption in tourist attractions and accommodations increased by 12.6 and 11 percent year-on-year respectively. The sports economy has become a key force in stimulating domestic demand and driving economic growth.
Summer consumption in Changzhou continues to rise boosted by the start of the 2025 Jiangsu Football City League, transforming Hanjiang Road International Street area into a football-themed night market, becoming a new consumption hot spot. As a result, electricity consumption in the area surged to 202 percent from the same period in June.
"Business is good, and merchants have been adding induction cookers and freezers one after another. With the continuous high temperatures, the electricity load is expected to increase," said Ren Li, a manager of the Hanjiang Road community.
In response, State Grid Changzhou Power Supply Company's Xinbei district power supply service center took swift actions. After establishing a special group in conjunction with the local government on July 2, they decided to increase capacity for the area and initiated an "emergency power supply for livelihoods" process. Through collaboration with relevant government departments, the staff members quickly finalized channel construction and transformer installation plans, and connected the new transformers to the grid ahead of schedule.
