Wang: China willing to strengthen ties with Germany

Foreign Minister Wang expressed China's willingness to enhance high-level exchanges with Germany and make full use of various consultation mechanisms to promote sustained, healthy and stable development of relations, during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin on Friday.
He noted this would benefit not only both nations but also Europe and the world at large.
Wang expressed the belief that the new German government would view China's development positively and maintain a rational, pragmatic China policy while respecting China's core interests and adhering to the one-China principle.
China welcomes Germany's prosperity and greater role in Europe and the world, Wang said, adding that China is committed to building a higher-level open economy and would only open its door wider to share market opportunities with Germany.
Merz expressed Germany's willingness to uphold openness and mutual benefit with China, promote fair trade, and jointly address challenges, which he said serve the mutual interests of both countries.
The German leader also reaffirmed his government's adherence to the one-China policy during the talks.
Both sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis, agreeing to maintain strategic communication to promote peaceful resolution of the issue.
