Slovenian appliance maker Gorenje celebrates 75th anniversary in Shanghai

Gorenje, a home appliance manufacturer originating from Slovenia, marked its 75th anniversary at Design Shanghai 2025 on Thursday, highlighting the brand's growing presence in the Chinese market.
The celebration, themed "Technology Carves Time, Art Ignites Life", was attended by Ambassador of Slovenia to China Boštjan Malovrh and Mira Lesjak, head of the Slovenian Consulate in Shanghai, underscoring the significance of Gorenje's business expansion in China.
Malovrh highlighted Slovenia's strong industrial base and leadership in green innovation, noting that Gorenje embodies the nation's commitment to design excellence and sustainable technology. He also emphasized Slovenia's plans to strengthen bilateral trade relations with China.
Since its entry into the Chinese market in 2019, Gorenje, founded in Slovenia in 1950, has positioned itself as a premium brand that combines technological innovation with artistic design. The company, now part of the Chinese home appliance manufacturer Hisense Group, has been targeting China's increasingly discerning consumers seeking high-end home appliances.
Lesjak emphasized Gorenje's status as a cherished national brand, expressing hopes that its aesthetic values will continue resonating with Chinese consumers. "While Slovenia is often recognized for its natural beauty, we are equally proud of our contributions to environmental innovation," she said, underlining Slovenia's emergence as a pioneer in green technology and sustainable development initiatives.
Zhu Laihua, general manager of Gorenje China, affirmed Gorenje's growth strategy in China, emphasizing the brand's dedication to blending art with advanced technology to enrich modern living.
