13.4m students register for gaokao this year

Around 13.35 million students have registered for this year's national college entrance examination, or gaokao, which will start from June 7, and the Ministry of Education has pledge to ensure a safe and fair examination process.
Measures to enhance security include strengthening risk assessments, updating examination regulations and enhancing security checks at key locations such as printeries, the ministry said in an online release on its official website on Wednesday.
Authorities are cracking down on cheating through enhanced monitoring, stricter security checks at testing centers and campaigns against exam-related fraud. Integrity education will also be emphasized among students, it added.
The ministry will also provide comprehensive support services to students, including assistance with transportation, accommodation and psychological counseling. Specialized services and accommodation will be provided for over 140,000 students with disabilities, including 16 visually impaired students.
Guidance on college application and selection will be improved, such as upgraded online resources and training for teachers. The ministry will actively combat misleading advertising and fraudulent practices in the admissions process, it said.
